This Saturday afternoon, the 2025 European Darts Open continues rolling on in Leverkusen as the second round gets underway. Among the star attractions in the afternoon, Gary Anderson, Dave Chisnall and Damon Heta get their latest European Tour campaigns underway.
Leverkusen hosts the eighth Euro Tour tournament of the season this weekend. It is also the eighth time the European Darts Open has been played. The first edition took place in 2016 in Düsseldorf and was won by Michael van Gerwen, who settled with Peter Wright (6-5) in the final. A year later, the European Darts Open moved to Leverkusen. Then it was Wright who got to lift the cup. Snakebite triumphed in the final 6-2 against Mervyn King.
After not taking place in 2020 and 2021 due to the corona pandemic, the tournament has been on the Euro Tour calendar annually again since 2022. Van Gerwen, who will not be there this year due to private circumstances, still remains the record holder with four overall wins. Last year, the overall victory went to Dave Chisnall, who edged his compatriot Ross Smith 8-6 in the final.

Ross Smith vs Matt Campbell

With many of the PDC’s biggest stars absent from Leverkusen this weekend, Ross Smith begins The European Darts Open among the standout contenders to take the title.
In the ‘Ginja Ninja’ Matt Campbell however, Smith is faced with an opponent that is unlikely to allow ‘Smudger’ to have things all his own way. After coming past Alan Soutar 6-4 in the opening round, the Canadian has already shown his bottle on the Leverkusen stage too.

Ryan Searle vs Andrew Gilding

Similarly to Ross Smith, both Ryan Searle and Andrew Gilding will be feeling that a deep run at this Euro Tour is very much on the cards if they can build up some momentum in the early rounds.
Gilding, who also reached a Euro Tour final this year, losing out to Gary Anderson in Sindelfingen, opened up his tournament on Friday afternoon with a 6-4 win over Kevin Knopf. Averaging 97.28 in that one as well, a similarly solid performance could see ‘Goldfinger’ secure a Sunday return.

Damon Heta vs Mickey Mansell

Always a well supported figure on the Euro Tour, Damon Heta knows exactly how to get the German crowd eating out the palm of his hands by using local anthems as his walk-on.
Against Grand Slam of Darts semifinalist Mickey Mansell, Heta might need that help from the crowd to get him over the line too. Coming through a nail-biting opening round showdown with William O'Connor, Mansell showed plenty of his customary calmness under pressure to take a 6-5 win on Friday afternoon, booking this meeting with the Australian number one.

Danny Noppert vs Ritchie Edhouse

After being confirmed as one half of the Dutch team for the upcoming World Cup of Darts, Danny Noppert will be looking to show some strong form this weekend in Leverkusen. Coming up against the reigning European Champion Ritchie Edhouse in round 2 though, means Noppert may well have his work cut out.
Edhouse's form has been hit or miss so far in 2025, but averaging a smidge under 91 in round, the Englishman looked assured as he completed a comfortable 6-1 win over Petr Krivka.

Dave Chisnall vs Cameron Menzies

So often a star of the Euro Tour over recent years, Dave Chisnall has been frustratingly inconsistent so far in 2025. Fireworks will still be expected as ‘Chizzy’ meets fellow power scorer Cameron Menzies in round 2 however.
Menzies looked in trouble as he trailed Kim Huybrechts 4-1 in his opening round match. Showing good spirit though, the Scot came roaring back to reel off the last five unanswered and book his meeting with Chisnall.

Gary Anderson vs Wessel Nijman

Already a winner on the Euro Tour in 2025, defending his title in Sindelfingen, some expected Gary Anderson to be absent for much of the remainder of the campaign. His presence in Leverkusen this weekend however, is further proof that ‘The Flying Scotsman’ isn't running out of steam any time soon.
In the form of his opponent Wessel Nijman however, it's a battle of the generations as one of the greatest of all time faces off against one of the expected stars of the coming years. A 6-3 winner over Brendan Dolan in the opening round, Nijman has already shown his qualities this weekend too.

Mike de Decker vs Ryan Joyce

World Grand Prix champion Mike de Decker returns to Euro Tour action on Saturday afternoon, opening his European Darts Open challenge with a second round tie against Ryan Joyce.
‘Relentless’ put in a strong showing in the opening round on Friday night, moving through with a 6-3 win over Ricky Evans.

Gian van Veen vs Daryl Gurney

Closing out the afternoon session, Dutch prodigy Gian van Veen makes his bow. Like Noppert, Van Veen will be keen to display some good form ahead of the upcoming World Cup of Darts, where 'GVV' makes his debut for the Dutch side.
Daryl Gurney however, showed some strong form himself in the opening round, averaging 97.06 in a very impressive 6-2 win over Van Veen's compatriot Richard Veenstra on Friday night.
