The curtain has risen at the 2025 German Darts Grand Prix, where Saturday saw the conclusion of first-round action in the fourth event of this year’s European Tour. Sunday afternoon will feature the opening eight ties of the second round as the tournament intensifies in Munich.
Now in its seventh edition, the German Darts Grand Prix has a rich history. Michael van Gerwen claimed the inaugural title in Mannheim back in 2017. The following year, the event moved to Munich, where Van Gerwen again lifted the trophy in both 2018 and 2019. The tournament was paused during 2020 and 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Upon its return in 2022, Luke Humphries took the title, followed by Michael Smith in 2023, before Humphries returned to the winner's circle in 2024.

Sunday Afternoon Matches – Round Two Preview

The afternoon session opens with Danny Noppert taking on Madars Razma. Noppert, enjoying another consistent season, enters Munich as the ninth seed. Razma was a late call-up to the event following several withdrawals but made the most of the opportunity with a confident 6-3 win over Robert Grundy. While Noppert is the clear favorite, Razma is not one to be taken lightly—he rarely puts in a poor performance and is quick to punish any slip-ups.
Next on stage is Damon Heta against Ryan Joyce. Heta arrives in high spirits after capturing another Players Championship title earlier this week in Rosmalen. However, 'The Heat' will need to be at his best to see off 'Relentless' Joyce, who has been in fine form in 2025 and cruised past Hungary’s Andras Borbely 6-1 in round one. Heta is chasing his second career European Tour title, having previously won the Gibraltar Darts Trophy in 2022.
Gian van Veen will follow, taking on the 13th seed Andrew Gilding. Van Veen was impressive in his opener, averaging over 102 in a 6-2 dismantling of Germany’s René Eidams. He’s been stacking up high averages this season and, given Gilding’s inconsistent form, Van Veen enters this clash as the favorite.
Up next, 15th seed Ryan Searle will lock horns with Cameron Menzies. Menzies is enjoying a strong season, having already secured a Players Championship title. In round one, ‘Cammy’ edged Kevin Doets 6-4. With both players known for their power scoring, this match promises to be a potential barnburner.
Josh Rock will then face Scott Williams in a battle of emerging talent. The 23-year-old Northern Irishman has long been tipped as a future star, particularly impressing at floor events. Rock already has a Players Championship title to his name this year. Williams, meanwhile, dispatched Wessel Nijman 6-4 in the first round and tends to shine more on the big stage than behind closed doors. This one could go either way.
Third seed Rob Cross takes on Germany’s own Ricardo Pietreczko in a highly anticipated encounter. Pietreczko dazzled in his opener, averaging 106 in a dominant win over Adam Paxton. Cross, who’s shown flashes of brilliance but struggled for consistency this year, will need to be fully switched on to avoid an early exit.
The penultimate match of the afternoon features Michael Smith against Krzysztof Ratajski. Ratajski edged Mensur Suljovic 6-5 in one of the most thrilling matches of the opening round and looks to be finding form at the right time. Smith, meanwhile, has been searching for his A-game in recent months. Can ‘Bullyboy’ rediscover his spark on the big stage?
Wrapping up the afternoon session are Joe Cullen and Mickey Mansell. Mansell, known for his deliberate pace, came through 6-4 against Ritchie Edhouse in round one. Cullen, seeded 16th, will be the favorite, but Mansell’s grinding style could pose a tricky challenge.

TV Guide

The tournament will be broadcast by PDC TV. As usual with Euro Tour tournaments, the German Darts Grand Prix consists of three tournament days. The afternoon sessions start daily at 12 p.m., while the evening sessions start at 6 p.m.
The first round will take place on Saturday. The 16 Pro Tour players are then paired with one of the 16 players who managed to get through the various qualifying tournaments. The top-16 seeded players enter the tournament on Sunday in the second round. The denouement of the tournament follows on Monday, with the third round first in the afternoon session. Monday night the quarterfinals, semifinals and finals will follow.

Distribution of prize money

All participants starting from the first round are guaranteed £1250 in prize money, while the top-16 enter from the second round and receive £2,500 anyway. This amount eventually rises to the grand prize of £30,000 for the winner.
An important detail is that players who are automatically seeded via the Order of Merit and lose their first match will not be awarded prize money on the various rankings. This does apply to qualifiers who are later designated as seeded by the withdrawal of others.
