In a surprising first quarterfinal, Cameron Menzies and Mickey Mansell take on each other. Both men are in the last eight at a ranking major for the first time in their careers, and so for either player, a sensational semifinal spot glows.
Menzies started the tournament with a very important 5-2 victory over direct competitor Martin Schindler. 'Cammy' then lost to Danny Noppert (5-4) and Beau Greaves (5-1), but still finished second in Group B. He trailed Greaves on leg balance, while Schindler finished below Menzies on the basis of leg difference. At the last sixteen, Menzies surprised with a 10-9 victory over James Wade.
Mansell also recorded a win over Wade, as the Northern Irishman won 5-3 over the Englishman in the group stage. Mansell then also triumphed 5-3 against Rowby-John Rodriguez. Although he then lost 5-1 to Luke Humphries, he kept the reigning world champion below him in his pool. It is the fourth time Menzies and Mansell have met in an official match. In the head-to-head, "Cammy" leads 2-1. The met once before in 2024, when Menzies won 6-2.
For the second time this tournament Martin Lukeman and Rob Cross will face each other at this Grand Slam of Darts. Both men already met in the group stage and then Lukeman won 5-3.
It was one of three wins for "Smash" in the group stage. Lukeman also beat Peter Wright (5-0) and Leonard Gates (5-3). At the last sixteen, the 39-year-old Englishman then settled with Ross Smith (10-5). Although Cross lost to Lukeman, 'Voltage' did pick up points against Leonard Gates (5-2) and Peter Wright (5-1). Cross then played a top match against Ritchie Edhouse (10-4) at the last sixteen.
The previous meeting between the two Englishmen in the group stage of the Grand Slam of Darts was the fifth time they played against each other on the PDC Tour. It was the second time Lukeman recorded a victory over Cross, who is leading 3-2 in the head-to-head.
Sky Sports as usual show the tournament in the UK. As usual, the tournament begins with a group stage with eight groups of four players each. The group stage takes place from Saturday through Tuesday, with all players playing three times.
The top two players from each group will advance to the knockout phase. Starting Wednesday, Nov. 13, the knockout phase will begin with the first matches of the final sixteen. This round will be completed on Thursday, Nov. 14. The quarter-finals will be played on Friday, Nov. 15, and Saturday, Nov. 16, before the semifinals and finals are finished on Sunday, Nov. 17.
The event has been part of the PDC calendar since 2007. Back then, the prize pool already included £300,000, with £80,000 going to the winner. The prize pool was thrown up a few times in the following years, and in 2019 more than half a million prize money was distributed at the Grand Slam of Darts for the first time. Since the 2022 edition, the prize pool includes £650,000.
Every participant in the Grand Slam of Darts is guaranteed £5,000, which is the prize money you will be paid if you finish last in your pool. This amount can eventually go up to a sum of 150,000 pounds for the winner of the tournament. The players who win their pools in the group stage receive a bonus of 3,500 pounds. The Grand Slam has been a ranking tournament since 2015, so the prize money won counts toward the PDC Order of Merit.
