Michael van Gerwen meets
Nathan Aspinall as the first block of Premier League Darts games is rounded off.
We've already been treated to two nine-darters, and we've only had two nights of play. The first of them came from
Jonny Clayton, who unfortunately couldn't keep up the momentum in his next game. The Ferret can bounce back right away as he opens the show against
Gary Anderson.
It was
Rob Cross who dealt Clayton his first defeat of the season. Cross has established himself as the picture of consistency so far in this campaign, and has taken just four games to match last season's points tally.
Peter Wright grafted his way to a draw against
Dimitri van den Bergh, and will have to be very wary of Voltage.
On Night Three, Jonny Clayton put in a nine-darter against
Jose de Sousa. The next night, De Sousa got the nine against Nathan Aspinall. So it's Aspinall's turn, right? He'll certainly hope so. The Asp meets a wounded Michael van Gerwen, who put in a performance way below his normal standard against
James Wade.
Speaking of Wade, the UK Open champion is in action after the Van Gerwen vs Aspinall showdown. He sits just outside the bottom two after his opening win of the Premier League Darts season and, with all due respect to
Glen Durrant, this one is a must-win to follow. For Duzza, it really is just a case of taking it game-by-game and hoping to see the green shoots of recovery.
Nine-dart hero Jose de Sousa is back to bring his score-heavy, maths-light brilliance to a tragically empty Marshall Arena. He isn't doing much by way of actual wins, however. Dimitri van den Bergh can enjoy looking at the table right now, because he's top of it, with the only remaining unbeaten record to boot. De Sousa might not go and match the 180-hitting record again, but this pair are likely to batter the red bit.
