It's time for the second round of the 2025
World Cup of Darts in Frankfurt! The 12 group winners have joined the four top nations in the knockout stage. England, Scotland and Wales have to wait until Saturday evening before they get to play their first match, but Northern Ireland will finally start the tournament in the afternoon session.
They will do so at the end of the afternoon against South Africa. Devon Petersen and Cameron Carolissen got a helping hand from Norway on Friday night. The South African duo had started the tournament with a 4-3 defeat against Poland, but South Africa went on to win 4-1 over Norway. Those same Norwegians managed to pull off a 4-2 victory over Poland, making Petersen and Carolissen the group winners on leg balance. They will now face Josh Rock and Daryl Gurney, who form a pair for the first time at the World Cup of Darts.
Swedish Dutchman Jeffrey de Graaf managed to reach the next round with Sweden. Together with partner Oskar Lukasiak they won 4-1 against Lithuania. Although the Swedish duo then went down 4-3 against France, Sweden became group winner. They were paired with Hong Kong in the draw for the last sixteen. Man Lok Leung and Lok Yin Lee managed to comfortably hold off the United States and Bahrain in the group.
In the first match of the afternoon, Malaysia and the Czech Republic face each other. Tengku Shah and Tan Jenn Ming gave Malaysia the group win with victories over Canada (4-1) and Denmark (4-1). The Czech Republic did not really get into trouble in the group with Chinese Taipei (4-2) and India (4-2) either. Especially in the first match Karel Sedlacek and Petr Krivka impressed, as an average of over ninety was achieved against Chinese Taipei.
Switzerland and Ireland will also cross swords. The Swiss Stefan Bellmont and Alex Fehlmann started their tournament with a 4-3 defeat against Croatia, but still managed to take the first spot in Group K thanks to a 4-1 win over Japan, which had earlier won 4-3 against Croatia.
Ireland managed to survive the group stage in an unusual way. In Group D, in addition to Ireland, Gibraltar and China were also in the group. All managed to win once, and also with the same result so that everyone finished equal in points and the leg balance was also equal. In the end, the number of breaks made was looked at and in that statistic Ireland came out on top. The Irish duo of William O'Connor and Keane Barry will have the chance against Switzerland to reach the quarterfinals of this nations tournament for the second time in history.
