Two of these Dutchmen will play each other, as Michael van Gerwen will battle Danny Noppert for a spot in the last eight at this tournament. 'Mighty Mike' made it to the second round by dealing with Jonny Clayton (6-4) in his first match. Danny Noppert defeated compatriot Gian van Veen 6-3 to force a clash with his compatriot.
The three other Dutchmen get to play hard Saturday night. Raymond van Barneveld faces teenage sensation Luke Littler after his 6-0 victory over Johan Engstrom. The Nuke' recorded a hard-fought 6-5 victory over Ross Smith in the first round.
A meeting with former world champion Rob Cross awaits for Kevin Doets. Doets impressed Saturday afternoon with a 6-0 victory over Keane Barry with an average of 110. Cross triumphed 6-2 against veteran Simon Whitlock. A clash with a former world champion is also scheduled for Wessel Nijman. Nijman won the first round with playful ease against Andrew Gilding (6-1), and that makes Nijman face Michael Smith. Bullyboy' fought his way past Jose de Sousa 6-5.
The evening session at the AFAS Live kicks off with a meeting between Chris Dobey and Boris Krcmar, two men who made a fine impression on Friday. Dobey sent Dimitri van den Bergh home by beating the Belgian after a decisive leg. Krcmar was too strong for Stephen Bunting to qualify for this round. Reigning world champion Luke Humphries also continues his hunt to add this missing title to his record. After his victory over Haupai Puha, 'Cool Hand Luke' now meets Damon Heta. The Australian needed a decisive leg on Friday to eliminate Gabriel Clemens.
Daryl Gurney was responsible for the elimination of Dirk van Duijvenbode on Saturday afternoon. Therefore 'Superchin' can cross swords with Gerwyn Price in the second round. The Welshman himself eliminated Cameron Menzies. Peter Wright and Jeff Smith will also battle it out between them to see who qualifies for the quarterfinals of the World Series of Darts Finals. Wright won remarkably easily in the first round against Dave Chisnall (6-1). Smith prevailed against surprising qualifier Rhys Griffin for a spot in the last sixteen.
