Three more matches from the third round of the World Darts Championship are scheduled for Thursday night. Among others, title favourites
Gerwyn Price and
Luke Humphries will make their appearance at Alexandra Palace.
Price began the World Darts Championship with a carefree 3-0 victory over Connor Scutt, and now takes on
Brendan Dolan. The Northern Irishman had to make a big effort to qualify for the last 32. He only dealt with his compatriot Mickey Mansell after a sudden-death leg. Three years ago Price and Dolan also played in the last 32 at the World Darts Championship. The duel then turned into a huge cracker, which Price only won after a decisive leg. It turned out to be the prelude to the world title for "The Iceman".
Humphries started the tournament as the bookmakers' favourite, but has since been surpassed by Michael van Gerwen at the betting shops. Remarkably, this happened right after Humphries won 3-0 over Lee Evans. Apparently, "Cool Hand Luke" had not made enough of an impression after all. In that match, Humphries posted an average of 93 per turn. He now faces
Ricardo Pietreczko, who made it to the last 32 at the expense of Mikuru Suzuki (3-0) and Callan Rydz (3-2).
The final match of the evening is between
Ricky Evans and
Daryl Gurney. Both players will no doubt think that this is a golden opportunity to reach the last sixteen of the World Darts Championship. Gurney already did so during the editions of 2017 and 2021, Evans has never reached the last sixteen in Ally Pally. Gurney managed to deal with Steve Beaton in strong fashion in the previous round. The 1996 world champion was defeated 3-1 in sets thanks to an average of 100.79. Evans started the tournament with a 3-0 victory over Simon Adams and then caused a huge sensation by also eliminating Nathan Aspinall (3-0). Moreover, 'Rapid Ricky' also played an excellent match against Aspinall. If Evans can repeat that form, a lot is possible tonight against Gurney.
