Classy Chris Dobey into last 16 at the Ally Pally after epic win over Ross Smith in high-quality affair

Chris Dobey is through to the last 16 at the World Darts Championship after a delightful duel. In a very attractive match, Ross Smith was defeated 4-2 in sets, making 'Hollywood' the opponent of defending champion Michael Smith in the next round.

'Smudger' threw an average of 111.55 over the first two sets, but bizarrely enough he found himself trailing 0-2. Opponent Dobey stepped it up a notch and averaged 114.80 after two sets. The reigning Masters champion won both sets 3-1.

However, Dobey was unable to maintain that high level, while Smith posted a 110+ average in set three. Thanks to an 11-darter and a 12-darter, set three went 3-2 to 'Smudger', who then also took set four 3-1, levelling up the tie.

A key moment after that was the third leg of set five. Dobey threw a very bad leg of his own, but Smith could not take advantage of it. He missed a break opportunity on the bullseye, then Dobey escaped a break with a 21-darter. The world number seventeen then took set five 3-2.

Smith then opened the sixth set with a 14-darter, and then Dobey also held his own leg with an 11-darter. Then came the crucial moment of the match. Smith missed five chances to keep his own leg and these misses were punished by a 60 finish from Dobey. 'Hollywood' was then allowed to throw for the match and Dobey did not fail and ended this match with a 14-darter.
