Martin Schindler has reached the last 16 of the
Hungarian Darts Trophy after defeating Sebastian Bialecki 6-1 in a convincing display.
Despite an average of 100.17 and a 75 percent finish percentage, a victory was not a foregone conclusion for Schindler. "I was glad Sebastian didn't take advantage of his chances so I could take advantage of that," he explained in the interview afterwards. "I know it's not easy to play in front of 4,000 people. It's quite a crowd!"
With Bialecki, who can be a very dangerous opponent, Schindler did not have an opponent he could take lightly. ''We are playing on the European Tour. There is no easy draw in the second round. I didn't underestimate him. I tried to concentrate on my game. I didn't throw any 180s, but I threw a lot of 140s. That made the difference in the end.''
Schindler has had his share of ups and downs this season, one time reaching the quarterfinals on the European Tour and another time being eliminated in his opening match. ''My results this year are pretty good, without playing really well myself,'' the German said.
On Sunday afternoon, 'The Wall' will play at the last sixteen against Luke Humphries, one of the favorites for the final victory in Budapest. ''Then I'm going to try again to get a result and play my own game. I'm looking forward to it.''
