Seigo Asada won two consecutive titles in the opening weekend of the inaugural Japan Tour. The 44-year-old Japanese is thus hoping to return to the World Darts Championship at the end of this year.
The recently introduced Japan Tour - which promises a place at the upcoming Darts World Cup - consists of 10 tournaments followed by a playoff with the top 32 players at the end of the season.
The former World Cup of Darts semifinalist defeated Yoshihisa Baba in a last-leg shoot-out to prevail in the first tournament.
The three-time former World Cup participant later extended his winning streak to 14 games in the second tournament, which ended with a convincing 4-1 victory over Yuichiro Ogawa.
However, Asada's monopoly was broken by Keita Ono in the third tournament on Sunday, when Mitsuhiko Tatsunami stormed to victory with a whitewash victory over Taiyo Nishimata.
Jun Matsuda - who represented Japan at last year's World Cup of Darts - closed the weekend in style with four consecutive legs to beat Shogo Fuse in the fourth tournament. During the fourth tournament,Yuya Higuchi incidentally threw a nine-darter during his match in the second round against Takayuki Masatsu.
The Japan Tour will be played two more weekends in July and September, followed by the top 32 competing for a place at the World Darts Championships.
