The last semi-finalist has been confirmed at the 2022/23 PDC World Darts Championship with Michael van Gerwen set to face Dimitri van den Bergh tomorrow evening.
The pursuit of a fourth World title remains unscathed for Van Gerwen who has only been troubled by Mensur Suljovic during this tournament after seeing off Chris Dobey in a 5-0 sets win with a 102 average, five 180's and 38% on the checkouts.
In facing Van den Bergh, he takes on another player he has a superb record against with the victor facing Michael Smith or Gabriel Clemens on January 3.
Van Gerwen missed set darts for a cruise control 2-0 lead with Dobey sealing only the second leg of the tie but Van Gerwen kicked off 177 on his throw as he looked to derail any potential of a comeback into the set.
He did just that with Dobey having a cruel bounceout denying him the chance at being on a finish and Van Gerwen left 36 which he pinned for 2-0.
He continued his hold on the tie going 1-0 up on double 10. Dobey missed 110 to hold and Van Gerwen went one away from a 3-0 sets lead. He sealed that on double 16.
An 88 checkout on the bull was missed by Dobey and Van Gerwen hit double 20. MVG missed double 16 for 107 and Dobey returned for a 136 which he missed on double eight and it was another iteration of MVG cleaning up the Dobey misses. He went one away from a 4-0 sets lead.
Dobey couldn’t get a dart at 121 and Van Gerwen returned for double 10 for a 4-0 sets lead. Dominance continued for Van Gerwen who pinned 65 to go two away.
A 152 checkout saw him break and he was throwing for the win. Dobey missed 170 for a break back but Van Gerwen couldn't punish this time and 'Hollywood' broke on double eight.
A 145, 170 and 134 left 48 after nine darts for MVG but he missed two match darts only to return for double five.
