Ricky Evans showed the darker side of the game after his defeat to Dave Chisnall at the European Darts Trophy with the darting entertainer sharing screenshots of abusive messages sent to him on Instagram.
Evans saw off Raymond van Barneveld and burst into tears after seeing off the doyen of Dutch darts weeks after the passing of his sister. A match that he dedicated to her beforehand, Van Barneveld also received what Evans called 'unnecessary hate'.
Van Barneveld promptly left the stage and was seen as showing a lack of compassion but Evans was quick to set the record straight including saying that Barney was the first to show his love and support when he suddenly lost his sister during UK Open weekend.
He said that Barney went up to him in Leicester in the days that followed to offer his sympathy and condolences so isn't what he is painted out to be. Albeit after losing 6-1 to Chisnall, it was Evans who was on the end of abuse.
'I'm seeing Raymond get a lot of unnecessary hate on social media,' Evans wrote on Facebook. 'And I just wanted to address this.
'Raymond was the first person to come up to me in Leicester at the recent Pro Tour events to offer his sympathy for my recent bad news, and I love and respect him massively.
'We have spoken this morning, and he wished me well for the rest of the tournament. There is no bad blood or issue at all between us, we both just wanted to win last night.'
But it extended to Evans who received a message calling him a fat s*** before saying he is as useless as his 'dead sister' and would be 'seeing her in hell'.
Evans posted the screenshot with the caption. 'You sick horrible human being. I know I'm fat but the rest wow!!!'
