John Hurring enjoyed a spectacular weekend at the DPNZ ProTour in Christchurch, securing back-to-back titles on March 22 and 23. The 40-year-old New Zealander, a three-time World Series of Darts qualifier, claimed both Event 3 and Event 4, defeating Ben Robb in both finals.
Hurring’s campaign in Event 3 saw him navigate past Levi Koroheke, Jack Sheppard, Jaymie Hilton-Jones, and Kayden Milne in the knockout stages. In the final, he edged out Ben Robb 7-6 in a thrilling contest.
The match began on a challenging note for Hurring, as he quickly found himself 3-1 down. However, he fought back impressively, stringing together three consecutive legs before sealing victory in a decisive final leg.
Hurring continued his dominance in Event 4, once again producing a flawless run. This time, he overcame Kerrin Robinson, Marc Cossey, Taylor Teinaki, and Haunui Hira to book his place in the final—where he once again faced Ben Robb.
Unlike their previous encounter, Hurring started strongly, surging to a commanding 5-1 lead. Robb mounted a comeback but ultimately fell short, as Hurring closed out a 7-5 victory, securing his second title of the weekend.
Despite reaching two consecutive finals, Robb had to settle for runner-up on both occasions. Meanwhile, Jonny Tata impressed with back-to-back semifinal appearances, while Mark Cleaver, the winner of the first two 2025 DPNZ ProTour events, reached the quarterfinals in both tournaments.
The DPNZ ProTour continues next month with the fifth and sixth events of the season, scheduled for April 26 and 27 in Nelson.
