Michael Smith averaged 105 as he dispatched Krzysztof Ratajski to reach the Quarter-Finals of the 2022
Masters where he will now take on fellow St Helens ace, Dave Chisnall.
Smith was glad to have a real battle with 'The Polish Eagle' but it was one that only transpired that way at the end.
"It was a great game to be involved in. Krzysztof didn't really show up in the first session, should have been 5-0 up in the first session and then started to play a bit. That last session went nuts the both of us, it was a really good game after that. I'm just gutted that the full game wasn't like that," said Smith post match.
He received a great reception once again and it is something that 'Bully Boy' isn't used to.
"Soon as I walked on they started chanted and singing I thought I'm not used to this. Thought it was just the World's because they were cheering all the English guys but they carried on here. You can't explain that feeling."
It is now about moving on from World Championship disappointment as well for Smith.
"You've got to have positives and every game was a positive. The only downside was being 2-0 up and 5-4 up. It's one of them, I've got over losing to Michael, I've got to get over losing to Peter and next time I've got to put it right."
