Smith on nerves in facing injured Davis during final group match: "I've never been 1/50 on in my life"

Michael Smith is through to the Last 16 of the 2021 Grand Slam of Darts after seeing off Joe Davis 5-3 in a game where he knew he was already through.

But Smith admitted facing an injured player was an issue as he needed to still produce despite it being seemingly easier on paper.

"I think that was the problem in my head. I was more nervous playing tonight because I've never been 1/50 on in my life. I managed to get the win and the two points, just my preparation for the game wasn't the same as the last two," said Smith post match.

"Winning the group and getting the bonus should have been enough to get me up for anything but it was in the back of my mind just thinking it's a game I should win instead of prepare proper first and play like you can."
