Van Gerwen discusses Van Barneveld's return to darts: "Trust me when I retire you won't see me again"

Michael van Gerwen saw off John Henderson in a superb victory which saw a party piece ending of a 125 checkout using two bullseyes as he moved into the Last 16 of the Grand Slam of Darts.

But he admitted that he isn't a fan of games where only a solitary leg or two is needed.

"It's a bit awkward games like this, they know you only need one leg to go through, two legs to be top of the table. You don't want to put yourself in that position but games like this are part of it. Maybe on the end I was trying a little bit too hard and then things don't go your way but to finish off the game with a nice 180 and 125 finish, I can't really complain," said Van Gerwen post match.

Thoughts on Van Barneveld return

He also discussed Raymond van Barneveld's return to the sport with at the time a potential tie with them set only for Gary Anderson to win through.

"Raymond will always be a good player and he can beat anyone on his day. Personally I would have done it differently. If I retire, trust me you will never see me again. If I retire I will retire but that's his decision. Probably also has to do with his divorce, he expected to have a lot of exhibitions then Corona hit everyone."

As a result, he also spoke about how despite Anderson not being in the best form seemingly, he is always unpredictable.

"Gary is Gary, sometimes he doesn't try, sometimes he doesn't try. He's a very unpredictable player."
