Smith on spending World Championship winnings: "There will be a bull coming, it will be called Ferdinand from the film"

Many buy flash cars, big houses or a fancy watch when winning half a million pounds but for Michael Smith, he will be buying more farm animals including a bull called Ferdinand.

Smith said it has always been a dream since being a young player with the pursuit of a World title and likens the cartoon bull to himself in being the only one left.

“I'm a (Manchester) United fan, so for me Cristiano Ronaldo has always been the greatest,” he said as per Daily Star. “But Messi achieved what he was always destined for at the World Cup, and I knew I was destined to win this.

“It doesn’t matter about all the heartache I’ve been dealt before, it doesn’t matter that I’ve lost eight major finals. I wanted to show my kids that you don’t quit, you don't go into anything half-hearted.

“I always said that if I win the world championship, I’m getting a bull for my garden.

“We’ve got tenants in the front field with two horses, so I can’t just go back home and tell them to get their horses out.

“But there will be a bull coming. It will be called Ferdinand from the film, it’s a cartoon me and the kids like.

“Ferdinand is the only one to survive the bullfighting, he beats the matador, so we agreed we'd call the bull Ferdinand.”
