The PDC has introduced the 'Bigger 180' campaign ahead of the upcoming Darts World Cup. Main sponsor Paddy Power will donate £1,000 for every 180 score during the World Cup to Prostate Cancer UK, while a bonus of £180,000 for every nine-darter during the World Championship will be split between the player, Prostate Cancer UK and one lucky fan in attendance at Alexandra Palace.
Ritchie Edhouse, still the surprise winner of the European Championship in late October, has already revealed his support for the charity after his partner's father was diagnosed with the disease. "It's something that's close to my heart," said Edhouse. "He's been suffering for about five years now so it's a personal thing for me if I can help support The BIGGER 180.
Special day
Edhouse sat down with people from the campaign last week. "It was a different day for me as I've never done anything like this before but it was good to meet so many people and interact with them," he said.
The 41-year-old Englishman is the 29th seed at this year's World Darts Championship and is exempt in the first round. In the second round, he will take on the winner of the duel between Ian White and Sandro Eric Sosing.
"I can see the World Championship's approaching now and it's inspired me to want to get on that practice board and get ready for it. I know that the more 180s I hit, the more money I can help raise.
"It's massive to see £1,000 donated by Paddy Power for every 180 and I think there will be over £1 million raised again which is so important for the future."
Last year a whopping 914 180 scores were thrown at the World Darts Championship, main sponsor Paddy Power eventually rounded that amount to 1 million euros for prostate cancer research.
