Gerwyn Price was the big man Thursday night at the 12th round of play in
Premier League Darts in Liverpool "The Iceman" won his third weekly title of the season and boosted his chances of making it to the playoffs in a big way.
At the M&S Bank Arena, the top players showed their best side. Price started the evening with a stunning victory over Chris Dobey, with both men averaging over 105. In the semifinals, "The Iceman" defeated Rob Cross, and in a thrilling final, he also beat
Luke Humphries 6-4. The Welshman again recorded an average of over 104 and showed that he is in form at the right time. Thanks to his weekly title, Price moves up to the third spot in the standings with 20 points.
Humphries himself also had an excellent night, with wins over Nathan Aspinall and
Michael van Gerwen. Although he lost the final, he picked up three valuable points and remains firmly in second place with 26 points. As such, Humphries, like frontrunner
Luke Littler, appears to be on course for the playoffs.
For Littler, it remained an early elimination. The young sensation lost to Michael van Gerwen in the quarterfinals in a thrilling match after he squandered a 4-0 lead, but still retains the lead with 30 points. Nathan Aspinall and Van Gerwen, meanwhile, share the fourth spot with 17 points.
Rob Cross is also back in full contention The former world champion managed to add two points to his total with his performance in the semifinals, and now has 14 points. Chris Dobey (12) and
Stephen Bunting (8) are still at the bottom, but with four rounds of play to go, they are not completely out of contention for the playoffs.
