Stephen Bunting is experiencing a sort of a second spring in his career. After 'The Bullet' switched to 18-gram darts, his game has progressed rapidly after years of playing with 12-gram darts.
Recently, the former Lakeside champion made it to the final at the German Darts Open, and then he showed off strong performances at the Hungarian Darts Trophy and World Grand Prix. PDC Europe asked him how he managed to get into such good form.
"I never stopped believing in myself and I made the right decision by switching from 12 gram darts to 18 gram darts. It feels right," Bunting replied.
So his new darts are 6 grams heavier than the set he played with for years. Surprisingly, Bunting was able to get used to the new weight very quickly. "It doesn't take that long, about three to five days. But it also has to work permanently. I realized I had to change something and tried a lot. The 18-gram darts felt perfect and it also works in matches."
There are two more events in Germany this year; the German Darts Championship and the European Championship. Bunting is looking forward to these tournaments. "The fans are phenomenal. I've often said I have more fans in Germany than in England. And every time we play in Germany again, that feeling is confirmed and people chant my name. It's really indescribable! All I can say about 2024 is that I want to play every event on the European Tour."
