The depth in quality darts offers today is quite staggering. This is proved by the number of finalists this year on the
Players Championship and
European Tour, with record-breaking variety of faces reaching the climax of events.
Yesterday saw the final Players Championship event of 2025, with Wessel Nijman taking glory against Luke Woodhouse. They day before in PC 33, Chris Dibey fended off William O'Connor in the final. These two examples show the numerous talents able to go deep in these events.
High number of new finalists
The previous record for floor events was set in 2022, with 36 different finalists in 30 separate events. This year, the number has been boosted to 39 in 34 tournaments. A large part of this is down to final matchups you do not expect or normally see. In Players Championship 22 and 23 in Halle 39, Hildesheim, the two final lineups were Sebastian Bialecki vs Niels Zonneveld (8-6) and Jermaine Wattimena vs Lukas Wenig (8-5).
The likes of Dennie Olde Kalter, Mario Vandenbogaerde and Jelle Klaasen have reached finals on the floor this year, with a number of star players also venturing deep into these events. Adding to that, the top three players in the world only feature in two finals. Humphries and Littler both have one final participation each, while van Gerwen failed to reach one.
The Dutchman was a winner on the Euro Tour, which saw a huge boost in finalists compared to the old record of 17 set only in 2024. A year on from this, 20 different finalists have featured in Europe in 14 events, once again flexing the depth darts has.
The last four events in 2025 saw eight different finalists, which included the likes of Niko Springer and Luke Woodhouse. With 14 events going up to 15 events next year, there is a high potential that this record can be smashed once again.
