Mensur Suljovic has delighted his home crowd in Vienna by claiming a third European Tour title in the form of the Austrian Darts Championship defeating Michael van Gerwen in the final.
Van Gerwen was leading throughout but Suljovic sent it all the way to the last leg and left himself well placed before sending the crowd into raptures with victory. He has denied Mighty Mike another PDC ranking title; he caps off a perfect weekend for 'The Gentle'.
Van Gerwen was in command early as he doubled his lead quite quick into proceedings; with a break of throw but Suljovic was always there as he claimed a break himself to go 2-1 behind.
A clinical ten darter though threw that open in the air; as Van Gerwen went 3-2 ahead with a 109 average as he sprinted out of the blocks.
MVG began to miss and Suljovic pounced to make it three all on his trusty double 14. Van Gerwen looked to surge ahead; as he hit three legs on the spin to make the first dash to the finishing post at 6-3 up.
He missed again though and this allowed Suljovic back in; he didn't wain from there hitting a 121 checkout to send the crowd into raptures.
Despite Van Gerwen going one away, he always had the crowd with him; in the decider, he smashed in a 70 checkout in typical Mensur fashion with T14, D14 to send himself and the crowd wild.
