Wright and Suljovic faced off as both sought to build on their afternoon wins. The reigning Champions League winner started strongly checking out 59 on double 10. Snakebite held his throw but missed tops to break in the next leg where Mensur hit double 16 for a 2-1 advantage.
The Gentle moved 3-1 ahead on double 10, capitalising on big numbers missed by Wright. Austria’s number one strengthened his grip with a double 16 to go 4-1 ahead. Wright stemmed the Suljovic tide with tops in the sixth leg. Both players left 81 after 9 but Suljovic had the advantage of throwing first and he checked out 81 on double 18.
The world number two eventually hit double 10 after Suljovic missed double 16 for a double break. The Austrian produced the game’s first ton plus finish with a 107, finishing on his trusty double 14. Wright reduced the deficit to 6-4 at the break but Suljovic looked more in control.
Wright broke Suljovic with a 61 finish but Mensur responded with a break of his own, a cool 100 finish to lead 7-5. The Austrian bossed the next leg, hitting a 180 to leave 98 and finish in 12 darts. “Snakebite” won consecutive legs, pinning tops then the bullseye for a 91 finish. Despite back to back maximums, Wright lost leg 16 as the world number six cleaned up on double 14. Suljovic cruised to victory with a double 10 moving him into the semi-finals.
