Noppert himself was responsible for the elimination of Martijn Dragt. Via an 11-darter and a 12-darter, 'The Freeze' took a 4-1 lead against his compatriot. Dragt then won three of the next four legs, but was unable to make up the second break deficit. With a 17-darter, Noppert put a 6-4 final score on the scoreboard.
At the last eight, Noppert will take on Daryl Gurney, who was too strong 6-5 to Matthew Dennant. The other quarterfinal at the top of the bracket is between Mensur Suljovic and Chris Dobey. Suljovic eliminated Dimitri van den Bergh 6-3, while Dobey dealt with James Wade (6-5) after a decisive leg.
At the other end of the schedule, Jeffrey Sparidaans saw his tournament come to an end against Nathan Rafferty. The Northern Irishman, who had won over Michael van Gerwen a round earlier, defeated Sparidaans 6-4. Thibault Tricole will be his next opponent, after the Frenchman won 6-5 over Gabriel Clemens. Martin Lukeman and Cameron Menzies are the remaining quarterfinalists after wins over Ross Smith (6-3) and Stephen Bunting (6-4), respectively.
A total of 125,000 pounds in prize money is distributed at each Players Championship tournament. The winner of the event will receive a check for 15,000 pounds.
