The Premier League restarts tomorrow night and ahead of the roadshow kicking off again, we take a look at the top ten highest averages in tournament history.
Michael van Gerwen's effort back in 2016 in defeating Michael Smith with a
123.40 average is the record average overall on TV.
Only Peter Wright has bettered this in terms of broadcast but as Van Gerwen has pointed out previously, this is in the ProTour not in a TV game so this mark still stands going into this year's edition.
Speaking of Wright, he is second getting close in spells to Van Gerwen's record back in 2017 when he defeated Adrian Lewis 7-2 with a phenomenal 119.50 average.
Van Gerwen as expected accounts for most of the averages with efforts of 117.95 in 2016, 116.90 in 2015 and 116.67 in 2016 all on the top ten.
It is Phil Taylor though who has the most. 'The Power' has one more than Van Gerwen with his highest being fourth which was the previous record against Simon Whitlock 8-4 with a 117.35 average.
He also has marks of 116.10 in 2012, 116.01 in 2009, 115.80 in 2015 and 115.25 during 2016 in a variety of close wins and wins with ease. Interestingly there has not been a high mark registered since the aforementioned Wright one in 2017, can anyone force their way onto the list this time around?
