After the most successful season of his career to date, Martin Schindler will look to kick off 2025 in style tonight at the Winmau World Masters. Ahead of his first round clash against Jonny Clayton, The Wall was a guest in a PDC Europe social media format. In a Q&A he talked about the biggest successes of his career, revealed curious cheering scenes in Riesa and looked back on his school career.
The first question of the video referred to Schindler's outstanding European Tour season, in which he won two PDC titles and traveled to the European Championship in Dortmund as number one in the European Tour Order of Merit. The PDC Europe wanted to know in which of his two finals Schindler felt more nervous: "I think I was more nervous in the first final than in the second. Simply because it was my first final."
Schindler was then asked how he experienced the moments immediately after his title win. "I set off on a 50-meter sprint in the backstage area in Riesa, because everything there is very spacious. And I just thought: 'I have to run, I have to jump'. That was probably the fastest 50-meter sprint of my life," said Schindler. Immediately after his jubilant run, he called his wife, who was watching the final with her parents and even had a little party. "They were all very shocked, just like me - it was a great night," said the 28-year-old.
In addition to his two title wins, Schindler emphasized in the video the consistency of his entire European Tour season, in which he reached the final day in nine of a total of 13 tournaments and the quarter-finals seven times. "I'm very happy with the whole season because not only did I win these two titles, but I also reached a few semi-finals and quarter-finals."
Towards the end of the Q&A, Schindler had to spill the beans and give an insight into his private life. Among other things, The Wall was asked about his school career and his handling of money: "I think I was an average student with lots of Bs and Cs. Maybe a few A's, maybe a few F's. I spend most of my money on cars because I don't own a house and don't have any expensive watches. So it's probably on the car I'm driving at the moment."
