Luke Humphries had a solid start to his run at the 2024 Flanders Darts Trophy on Saturday night in Antwerp. 'Cool Hand Luke' dealt with Ritchie Edhouse (6-3) in the second round.
For Humphries, it was his first appearance since the World Series in Down Under. Afterward, Humphries went on holiday to Turkey with his family. On his comeback, Humphries threw an average of 100.66 and a strong finishing percentage of 60 percent. The first seven legs of the match all went with the darts. Then Humphries threw out 60 for the break and a 5-3 lead. The Englishman was then allowed to throw for the match and did not fail. With a 14-darter, the world number one took the win.
"It was a fantastic game, and I had to dig deep to get the job done," the world number one said on stage afterwards, in his post-match interview with master of ceremonies for the European Tour, Philip Brzezinski.
“I knew I had a tough game on my hands, and Ritchie played really well there, but it was a solid performance," 'Cool Hand Luke' continues. "I’m looking forward to tomorrow now, and if I can get through that first game, that’s when I become dangerous.”
The 29-year-old Englishman is playing his seventh Euro Tour tournament of the season in Antwerp. Humphries took the title at the German Darts Grand Prix, and lost the final of the Baltic Sea Darts Open earlier this campaign.
