Stephen Bunting claimed the nightly title on Thursday evening as the
Premier League Darts visited Belfast, but it was crowd favorite
Josh Rock who stole the show during Night Four of the prestigious darts competition.
Rock, making his
Premier League Darts debut this season, had the chance to perform in front of his home crowd against Gian van Veen. Initially, the former World Youth Champion was completely swept aside by the current two-time World Youth Champion, as he trailed 5-1.
The Northern Irishman could barely find the treble, but in the seventh leg it suddenly clicked. Rock fired in back-to-back 180s and then produced a 141 checkout
to complete his nine-darter. A huge outpouring of joy followed, and he needed a few minutes to compose himself before throwing his next darts in the following leg. In the end, Rock still lost the match 6-2.
Rock therefore missed out on the £10,000 nightly bonus in Belfast, but his
nine-darter still earned him more. Players who hit a perfect leg in the Premier League Darts receive from tournament sponsor BetMGM a set of darts made from 18 grams of pure gold. The value of this set is estimated at £30,000. Not a bad reward for nine perfectly aimed darts.
