Alan Soutar did his part with a 5-2 success over Fallon Sherrock including a phenomenal 132 checkout to seal the deal at the
Grand Slam of Darts but he still had a tense wait with Peter Wright and Nathan Aspinall facing off.
"I've just been in that room watching that game and it's horrendous. So I now know how my partner Amanda feels when she watches me play darts, you have no control over your destiny and I'm so relieved," said Soutar post match.
"In the context of the game, the 132 checkout was huge because Fallon was banging in 180's. I actually looked at treble 14 as the bull was a bit obscured and I thought it might go in. 5-2 was good enough in the end but only just."
Facing Sherrock who was already out, Soutar said it was jovial in the practice room with recounting memories of days competing for England and Scotland which made him fear the worst due to the freedom element.
"She was dead relaxed and I thought oh no as we all know what she can do on a PDC stage especially.
"The Grand Slam is obviously exciting for the people at home but not the players. That's really hard to go through."
