The lineup selection for the 2025
Premier League Darts was arguably one of the most contentious in the history of the PDC's travelling darts roadshow. One of the notable omissions that some fans felt a little disappointed by, was Australian number one
Damon Heta.
'The Heat' has gone from strength to strength in recent years and at time of writing, sits 7th in the PDC Order of Merit. With 7 Players Championship titles to his name, the World Cup of Darts in 2022, and a former winner on both the European Tour and the World Series of Darts, many felt the time could've been right to pull the trigger on Premier League Darts selection in 2025, especially with Heta having forged a crowd-pleasing character for himself with entertaining walk-ons in recent times. As it turned out though, the PDC didn't quite agree.
Heta himself insists he's not too bothered by the snub. “The Premier League has never been on my radar. I always look at the next event. It’s all about ranking for me," explains the 37-year-old Aussie in conversation with TalkSport. “If I ever get asked or ever get picked, I’m not going to turn it down. It’s silly to turn it down. But I’m not going to dwell on it and I’m not going to lose sleep.”
Heta has forged a reputation as one of darts' colourful characters
One of those given an invite to the 2025 Premier League Darts instead of Heta was
Stephen Bunting. Not many argued against 'The Bullet's return at the time, but now five weeks into the campaign, the former Masters champion is still searching for his first win. “I think he feels privileged to just be playing the Premier League," Heta says on Bunting and his selection. “You know he’s playing for 17 weeks and he’s going to be on that stage still relishing being there in the moment. Even if he did not make the top four, I don’t think he would be that disappointed."
Heta also insists that Bunting's slow start to the year hasn't been nearly as bad as some might think. “He has had a good start with winning the Bahrain Darts Masters. Things were flowing and snowballing," the Aussie concludes. “It might snowball effect in the Premier League that he might not win so many games. It’s all down to him and how he approaches it.”
