The 2025 PDC World Darts Championship will take place from Sunday, December 15, through Friday, January 3, 2025. During this period, 95 matches will be played over seven rounds. In this article, we look at the highest averages per round in the history of the event.

Statistics platform Premium Dart Data has compiled a nice list of the players with the highest average per round to their name. One record was broken during the 2024 edition. Luke Littler then managed to throw the highest average ever in the first round with 96 participants at the World Darts Championship. In his opening round against Christian Kist, the teenage sensation reached an average of 106.12 per turn. This was also the highest average ever by a debutant at the World Championship.

The remaining six records are in the hands of only two players. Moreover, they are also neatly divided; three in the hands of Phil Taylor and the other three in the hands of Michael van Gerwen.

The record in the last 64 is in Van Gerwen's name. 'Mighty Mike' threw an average of 108.98 in his duel against Ryan Murray (3-1) at the 2021 World Darts Championship. The record at the last 32 is also held by the Dutchman. During the 2016 World Darts Championship, Van Gerwen threw 109.23 average in his match against Darren Webster (4-0).

The records at the last sixteen and in the quarterfinals are in Taylor's name. 'The Power' produced a 111.21 average in his match against Shayne Burgess in the last sixteen at the 2002 World Darts Championship. Seven years later, at the 2009 World Darts Championship, he threw 108.80 average in his quarterfinal against Co Stompรฉ (5-0).

In 2017, Van Gerwen threw an average of 114.05 in his sensational semifinal against Van Barneveld. This average is also the highest average ever at the World Darts Championship. Notably, Van Barneveld himself threw a 109.34 average in that same match, the highest losing average ever at the World Championships.

The highest average in a World Championship final has long been held by record champion Taylor. The English darts legend managed to throw an average of a whopping 110.94 in the 2009 final against Van Barneveld.
