With the Dutch Darts Championship taking place this weekend (28-30 April), we thought we'd take a look at the previous winners of the ten European Tour events that have taken place in the Netherlands.
At the inaugural edition of the now-defunct Dutch Darts Masters in Nuland all the way back in 2012, it was an all-Australian affair in the final as Simon Whitlock defeated his World Cup of Darts partner Paul Nicholson 6-1 to take the title. The following year Kim Huybrechts was the winner of the event thanks to a 6-3 win in the final against Brendan Dolan.
For the next five years, although the venue of the Dutch Darts Masters would change from Veldhoven to Venray to Maastricht and finally to Zwolle, the eventual winner of the event would remain the same as Michael van Gerwen consistently delighted his home crowd with five-straight title wins beating Mervyn King, Justin Pipe, Daryl Gurney, Steve Beaton and Steve Lennon respectively.
In the last ever edition of the Dutch Darts Masters in 2019, van Gerwen's winning run was brought to an end in a nail-biting, final leg decider as he went down 8-7 to 'Diamond' Ian White in the final.
The two previous Dutch Darts Championship event meanwhile were won by that man Ian White once again in 2018, beating Ricky Evans in the final and 11 months ago in May 2022, Michael Smith would avenge his UK Open final defeat to Danny Noppert by claiming the title courtesy of an 8-7 win.
Will the 'Bully Boy' be able to reclaim his title this time around? Coverage begins on Friday afternoon on pdc.tv and as always you can count on dartsnews.com for regular updates throughout.
