Fallon Sherrock was at the BST Hyde Park Championship to play in the exhibition and admitted that she is preparing for a narrative shift when Beau Greaves eventually becomes ineligible to play in the Women's Series.
Greaves is on the verge of not being able to play due to being in the top 64, which would favour Sherrock and the like on paper as they would win more titles. But like when Littler isn't there as Sherrock pointed out, the abuse would likely increase of 'keyboard warriors' being quick to put an asterisk next to their names.
Sherrock will play in Blackpool next week at the
Women's World Matchplay and is due to take on Deta Hedman with defending champion Lisa Ashton or Rhian O'Sullivan then awaiting.
'The Queen of the Palace' knows that she will need to be at her best if she plays Beau Greaves and that is what she is shooting for in the end to peak at the right time which in this case would be the final.
"A lot better. I've been practising as much as I can and playing as many competitions as possible. I've been playing relatively steadily. My aim is to average around 90 and hopefully get through a couple of rounds. If I play Beau at any point, that's when the 100 average has got to come in. If I don't hit 100 or high 90s, I might as well go home. That's what I'm preparing for. I need to be on my A-game," said Sherrock to
Online Darts.
Hedman
said that at the moment everyone is competing for second place while Sherrock sees it as the complete opposite and said why play if that is the case.
"I don't see why you should go into any competition thinking you're playing for second place. You should go into every competition believing you're going to win, regardless of who's in the field. You take each player as they come, do your best and never doubt your ability. I think you should always aim for first."
Sherrock hopes to go one better this time
Losing in the final last year, Sherrock continued that it still annoys her that she didn't manage to win the final against Ashton who was a surprise winner.
"I'm not going to take anything away from Lisa. She played well and deserved to win. I didn't hit my doubles and she did. But after being in the final the last two years, it does grate on you a little bit. Every year I go there thinking, "This year's my year." I'm going in with the same mentality. I'll take winning the title over just making another final because I really want to win.
But also due to in her view the amount of quality she possesses as a player that she should've won more. "With the quality of player I am, I should have won more than I have. Obviously with everything that's been going on health-wise, I've just had to try my best. I really want to be at least a two-time champion."
Fallon Sherrock aims to go one better this year.
Sherrock recently has signed for Winmau and will be using new equipment also after a long time with her previous manufacturer. "I've got the new darts and I'm using them, but at the moment I'm still mixing and matching the flights and stems. Eventually it'll all be Winmau equipment, but for now it's mainly just the darts. So yeah, get buying!"
But she won't be having similar problems to Mike de Decker and Michael Smith in adjusting for instance. "Not really because the barrels are all fairly similar anyway. I've always been able to throw any straight barrel, so it's just about grouping them a bit better to find the trebles. With a bit of practice I can adjust to anything."
She discussed her health and she said that she isn't any better than she was before, but she is stable as something she has lived with for quite sometimes it is just something she manages with and lives with.
"I'm not any better, but I'm not any worse either. I'm stable, so I'm just doing what I can and pushing myself as much as I can. I know my limits though. I know how to recover and I know what not to eat. I'm in a much better place when it comes to managing my health than I was a couple of years ago because back then I didn't have a clue."
Ally Pally in her sights and Greaves move
After Blackpool, she has her sights set on making sure she qualifies for Ally Pally, but will also go for the Grand Slam if she doesn't win it. "It depends how I get on at the Matchplay. If I win it, I don't need to worry about the Grand Slam. Otherwise, I've still got a lot to do to qualify. The next Women's Series will be all guns blazing. More than anything I want to get to the World Championship, but I'll also try to get to the Grand Slam. If that doesn't happen, the main thing is making the Worlds."
There will also be the potential that Beau Greaves will no longer play the Women's Series due to being top 64 and she said that in her eyes, she would still be World Number One even without that.
"It's a bit 50-50. Obviously I'd like to win more because, no disrespect to the other women, but the majority of the time it's Beau and Lisa who knock me out of Women's Series events. So yes, I'd probably win more and I'd earn more money, but I don't need the money. I just want to win titles. At the same time, if Beau wasn't there and I won, I'd still wonder if I'd beaten the strongest field because you're missing the world number one."
"Regardless of what anyone says, she is the world number one. If she's not there, then I'd almost feel like you've won against the world number two."
Sherrock also believes that it will mirror that online and that the 'keyboard warriors' will try and diminish any achievement in the same way that Luke Littler gets if he isn't there and someone else wins an event.
"One hundred percent. They're keyboard warriors. They don't appreciate the growth of the women's game. They should be supporting it and encouraging more women to play. But they're never going to be happy. Even in the ProTour and the men's game, if Luke Littler isn't there they'll still have something to say. Sometimes people just need to appreciate the winner."
But Greaves is also very much the goal in terms of winning a Tour Card albeit Sherrock is realistic that until she has an operation she can't gun for that again yet.
"That's still the long-term goal, but I don't think it's going to happen just yet. If it happens in the next couple of years, great, but I don't know what my game's going to be like until after I've had this kidney operation. Once that's done I can regroup, step my game up, get on the ProTour and really push myself."
