The
World Matchplay is due to take place between 18-26 July in Blackpool and while Luke Littler is set to headline the opening day, it could all be changed around in event of England reaching the World Cup Final in what is a bit of an unprecedented move.
Should England reach the World Cup final, which is being held on Sunday night, the first three sessions of the
World Matchplay will be moved forward, including the scheduled games and all tickets.
This means that Saturday's opening session would be held from 13:00 BST on July 18. The previously planned Sunday afternoon session is moving to Saturday night from 19:00 BST.
The planned Sunday evening session would then take place on Sunday from 1:00 p.m. BST. All tickets booked for the original sessions would then be moved to the new time, which means that fans will not be out of pocket when it comes to their time in Blackpool.
What happens if England reaches the final, and when does action go back to normal?
Full details will be confirmed though, later in the week on Thursday, July 16, following England's semi-final game against Argentina. Should a fan not be able to attend, they will be able to get a refund or resell their tickets. The same goes for packages.
This means that, in theory, Luke Littler, as defending champion, could be playing on Saturday afternoon if they reach the final. Currently pencilled in for 19:00 BST. He is joined by Josh Rock v Luke Woodhouse, Stephen Bunting v Niels Zonneveld, and Nathan Aspinall v Joe Cullen in that session, which would revert to 13 BST if England reach the final.
Littler and Humphries 'brought it home' in the darts World Cup, but 'The Nuke' could have an early start if England look like they will in the US.
The same would go for the Sunday session, which would go to Saturday night, headlined by Gary Anderson and Michael van Gerwen; Sunday night would then move to 13:00 with James Wade, Gian van Veen and Wessel Nijman pencilled in. So in theory, if England reaches the final, we will get no additional session on Sunday.
Monday will be as normal with Gerwyn Price, Luke Humphries headlining before the second round from Tuesday onwards.
