"This is a day I will always remember" - Cor Dekker creates sensation with nine-darter at Hungarian Darts Trophy

Cor Dekker caused a sensation at the 2024 Hungarian Darts Trophy on Saturday afternoon. The 36-year-old Norwegian threw a nine-darter for the first time in his PDC career, but eventually lost 6-2 to Stephen Bunting.

Trailing 5-1, Dekker, a Dutch-born Norwegian, first threw back to back 180s before successfully finishing with treble 20, treble 15 and double 18. "That was a magical moment when that dart on double 18 hit," Dekker said afterwards delightedly. "That nine-darter really gave me goosebumps, even though I was losing in the match. Afterwards it was hard to concentrate and I ended up losing the match as well, yet I will always remember this day."

Dekker did not deny his origins and played in an orange jersey. "I'm Dutch by birth but have lived in Norway for 12 years, that's why I've been coming out for that country for a while and I'm going to continue to do so in the future."

Earlier this year, Dekker also competed for Norway at the World Cup of Darts alongside Hakon Bjorge Helling, where they stranded in the group stage after a win against Hungary and a defeat against Poland.

The Hungarian Darts Trophy will be broadcast on PDC TV. As usual with Euro Tour tournaments, the Hungarian Darts Trophy consists of three tournament days. The afternoon sessions start daily at 12:00, while the evening sessions start at 18:00.

The first round will take place on Friday. The 16 Order of Merit qualifiers and the winners from the various qualifying tournaments then make their appearance. The top-16 seeded players enter the tournament on Saturday in the second round. Sunday will see the denouement of the tournament, starting with the third round in the afternoon session. Sunday evening will be followed by the quarterfinals, semifinals and finals.
