"This is a real shame" - Gian van Veen regrets missed opportunity after running out of steam in European Championship semi-final

Gian van Veen can look back on an excellent debut at the European Championship. Yet he is left with a sour aftertaste after his defeat in the semi-finals against James Wade.

Van Veen managed to get an early lead against Wade, getting himself 5-1 in front at one point but ran out of steam towards the end. "This is a real shame, I had the chances to win," reflected the 21-year-old Dutchman to Viaplay. "The match lasted maybe just a little too long for me. I started nicely, however, but at one point it just ran out."

"On the Euro Tours this year I also had it happen a few times that I ran out of energy on the final day, no idea how that came about. Suddenly it's completely gone and that's heavy bummer."
