Wessel Nijman managed a 6-3 victory over
Luke Littler in the second round of the
Baltic Sea Darts Open in Kiel on Friday night. He took advantage of an off-day from Littler, who only managed an average of around 83.
Littler, who managed to win the Euro Tour tournaments in Wieze and Graz earlier this year, already did not have such a good record against Nijman. The Dutchman picked up wins in five of the six meetings between them in 2023.
Nijman came out with a modest response after the match. “For Luke it’s obviously very tough to play a Premier League night and then go to a
European Tour event,” the Dutchman admitted after his win over Littler.
Still, Nijman was obviously very happy with his victory. ''For me, this is like being in darts heaven! I took my chances tonight and I’m very happy with the win. Playing Luke on the Friday and then
Michael van Gerwen on the Saturday - it doesn’t get any bigger, but if I play my own game I know I can make it tough for Michael tomorrow night,'' Nijman said, looking ahead to the meeting with his compatriot.
