In the latest episode of Sky Sports' Love The Darts podcast, Emma Paton, Matt Edgar and Michael Bridge talked about their favourites for the 2025 Grand Slam of Darts. The trio remarkably agreed: all arrows are once again pointing toward Luke Littler.
Matthew Edgar bit the bullet and was immediately clear in his prediction. "I think this is the moment we see Luke Littler become number one in the world," he said firmly, "I'm betting Luke wins this tournament."
However, he found it more difficult to predict Littler's opponent in the final. "That is difficult without knowing exactly how the draw will turn out," he admitted. "Even about the group stage we hardly agreed. But I stand by my choice for Luke - and maybe we'll get a surprise finalist there."
Emma Paton couldn't resist responding to that somewhat with a wink. "A wild card in the final? Last year the surprise could hardly have been bigger," she joked, referring to Martin Lukeman who managed to reach the final in Wolverhampton last year. Then Edgar still came up with an outsider for the title. "I'll just name one: Wessel Nijman."
Sky Sports presenter Michael Bridge joined Edgar. "I actually agree with everything Matt said about Littler," he acknowledged. "You almost roll your eyes when you mention his name again because you want to say something else - but he's just the guy everyone wants to beat."
Still, Bridge pointed to the competition. "Luke Humphries will want to defend his No. 1 position. And if you look at the format: once the group stage is over, the format goes more towards that of the World Matchplay. Then I think someone like James Wade can benefit enormously from that. So I'm going for a final between Littler and Wade, in which Littler will ultimately hold up the trophy."
