Nathan Aspinall won the European Darts Trophy last weekend in Gottingen in what has been a real confidence booster for the popular Asp as he heads into Premier League Darts action in Newcastle.

Aspinall sealed his maiden European Tour title in Gottingen 8-4 against Ryan Joyce and will now set his attention towards Michael van Gerwen in Newcastle having majorly boosted his hopes.

He looks likely now for World Matchplay and World Grand Prix later this year and has boosted those hopes no end after this past week. He called it his proudest moment at the time and he said it gives him the belief he can still compete.

“That was a big win for me. It was what I needed,” insisted the 2020 Premier League runner-up after he sealed the title over the past weekend in Gottingen as he immediately set his focus onto this week in Newcastle.

“Because of the situation I’ve been in over the last few years with the injuries and the dartitis, it was probably my proudest moment.

"This will help me believe in myself and it shows I’m still good enough to compete against the top boys, so roll on Thursday against Michael.”

Aspinall has long been one of the most tenacious players on that was shown during his run in Gottingen where he saw off Gary Anderson in the semi-finals from behind. He hit a 170 checkout which was one of the moments of the year with his back against the wall with Anderson waiting to win.

He will hope for more heroics this week when he takes on Van Gerwen who had a confidence boosting week in Cardiff and Gottingen and looks more himself again aiding for what could be a brilliant tie between the pair.
