As reigning world champion, Wright surprised not only the (small number present) audience at the 2021 World Darts Championships, but also his opponent Steve West by appearing as the film character The Grinch. Even his beard was - completely in theme - dyed green.

In classic Christmas colours, Wright escaped in a duel against Noel Malicdem. Coincidentally, the latter's first name means the word 'Christmas' in French.
