Tour Card race prior to the 2023 Players Championship Finals

The Players Championship Finals will take place from Nov. 24 to 26 in Minehead. The field of participants consists of the best 64 players at this year's Players Championships. For some participants, this tournament could be crucial to maintaining their status as professional dart players.

Players who have a PDC Tour Card will have two years to secure a position in the top-64 of the world rankings. If a player falls out of the top-64 after that period, that player must return to Q-School to try to earn back his Tour Card.

Steve Lennon seemed to drop out of the top 64 halfway through the season and lose his Tour Card, but the Irishman's participation in the Grand Slam of Darts moved him up to 59th in the world rankings and he is also qualified for the Players Championship Finals and the World Darts Championship. Devon Petersen, Jeff Smith, Florian Hempel and Darius Labanauskas, however, failed to qualify for these tournaments and seem almost certain to lose their Tour Card.

Kevin Doets reached his first ranking final at the PDC at Players Championship 20. Partly because of this result, the Dutchman managed to qualify for the Players Championship Finals and the World Darts Championship, and also virtually entered the top 64. However, Doets still needs some results at these tournaments to secure his Tour Card. The same goes for Boris Krcmar, who is currently only sure of participation in the Players Championship Finals.

Radek Szaganski took his first PDC title this year by defeating Connor Scutt in the final of Players Championship 27. This surprising final allowed both players to qualify for the Players Championship Finals and the World Darts Championship. However, both Szganski and Scutt are currently just outside the top 64 and would need results at these tournaments to extend their status as professional darts players for a third year. This also applies to Mario Vandenbogaerde, Jules van Dongen, who also qualified for both the Players Championship Finals and the World Darts Championship.

For Tour Card holders who did not make it to the World Darts Championship via the world rankings or the Pro Tour, there is another PDPA qualifying tournament at the end of the year, where four-start spots for the Alexandra Palace are available.
