Beau Greaves caused a sensation earlier this week by becoming the first woman ever to win a
Players Championship. The 22-year-old Englishwoman edged former world champion Michael Smith 8-7 in the final of
PC11. Greaves did so as an unseeded player, having only held a PDC Tour Card since the start of this year.
The rise of unseeded players on the ProTour remains one of the most intriguing developments in modern darts. Where the established names divided the bulk of the titles for years, in recent seasons we have seen surprise winners emerge more often who were not counted among the favorites beforehand. This trend is continuing into 2026 and underlines how deep the top tier of professional darts has become.
New talent breaks through
In 2023 it was already clear that the field was in major flux. Players like Ross Smith, Callan Rydz, and Ryan Joyce battled to tournament wins as unseeded entrants. New international talent also broke through, with the likes of Radek Szagański and Ricardo Pietreczko seizing their chance at the highest level.
A year later, in 2024, this development continued unabated. Young sensation Luke Littler confirmed his huge potential by claiming a ProTour title as an unseeded player. In addition, experienced hands made their mark from outside the seeded spots, such as Alan Soutar. For Belgian fans it was also a special moment when Dimitri Van den Bergh managed to take a title without seeded status, once again showing that established names can sometimes fall outside the seeding yet still strike.
In 2025 the list of surprise winners grew again. Bradley Brooks showed he is further capitalizing on his talent, while Sebastian Białecki continued the strong rise of Polish darters. Niko Springer also delivered a standout triumph, underscoring the growth of German darts. It illustrates how new generations are increasingly forcing their way into the battle for titles.

Fine margins across the field
This pattern seems to be continuing in 2026 as well, with Greaves winning a
Players Championship as an unseeded player. It confirms that the level on the ProTour is closer than ever.
For fans, this means above all one thing: every tournament can produce a new, unexpected story. It is precisely that unpredictability that makes the ProTour one of the most compelling circuits in the darts world.
