Due to success at the Ukrainian Qualifiers Vladyslav Omelchenko will be the first Ukrainian player to play at the PDC World Darts Championship's.
Omelchenko and 7 others got through the initial qualifiers on Saturday. This got them into to the Quarter Final's of the Ukrainian Qualifier on Sunday, where the 47 year old saw success.
The Ukrainian opened Sunday with a 6-3 win in a quarter-final battle against Artem Usyk. The 6-3 win got him into the semi finals where he competed with Yaroslav Mykytyn beating him 6-4.
Surprisingly the final wasn't as difficult for him, Omelchenko cruised past Volodymyr Zalevskyi with a 3-0 whitewash getting him that all important place at the World Championships for the first time.
After hitting four 140's and a 14 darter in the final the miner showed his happiness in an interview following the match.
"I am very happy, I have been playing darts for over 15 years and all this time I dreamed of playing in the PDC World Championship, because this is the biggest and most important tournament for any darts player.”
Omelchenko may have seen success this weekend however it hasn't been an easy year for him and his family, he had this to say about his situation leading up to the tournament.
"After the Russian invasion of Ukraine, I had to leave my home and move with my family for a safer place and I didn't practice for half a year,"
"It is a great honour for me to be the first Ukrainian player to play in a tournament of such a high level."
"Now I have two months ahead of me to improve my game."
