Interest group Transgender Netwerk Nederland (TNN) has spoken up for Noa-Lynn van Leuven after Anca Zijlstra and Aileen de Graaf decided to drop out of the Dutch women's team.
Zijlstra and De Graaf refuse to continue competing for the Netherlands because transwoman Noa-Lynn van Leuven has also been called up for the women's team. Zijlstra made her decision public via Facebook on Saturday. In a reaction to that message, De Graaf announced that she will no longer be available.
On Monday afternoon, the Dutch Darts Association (NDB) issued a response, stating that everyone should be able to feel at home in the darts world. ''We find it important that one hundred percent of people feel welcome at the NDB in a socially safe, healthy and inclusive sports environment. In that, it does not matter what your origin, political affiliation, gender, sexual orientation, race or religion is."
The organization Transgender Netwerk Nederland (TNN) has told the NOS that they are happy with the message of the Dutch Darts Association. They believe that transgender people belong in sport. ''Excluding trans women does not make sport more fair and it does not solve the problems for women either,'' a TNN spokesperson said.
