Many big names are competing in the third Euro Tour tournament of the season. From the list of world top players, only Luke Littler and Gary Anderson are missing in Riesa. Luke Humphries, Michael van Gerwen, Gerwyn Price, Peter Wright, Nathan Aspinall, James Wade, Danny Noppert and Dimitri van den Bergh are present. They are all among the top-16 seeded players and will enter the tournament from the second round.
In addition to the top 16 world rankings, the 16 best Pro Tour players were also guaranteed participation. They do have to start the tournament from the first round. This includes Mike de Decker, Ryan Searle, Cameron Menzies and Michael Smith.
The first round will take place on Friday. The 16 Pro Tour players are then paired with one of the 16 players who managed to get through the various qualifying tournaments. The top-16 seeded players enter the tournament on Saturday in the second round. The denouement of the tournament follows on Sunday, with the third round first in the afternoon session. Sunday evening the quarter-finals, semifinals and finals will follow.
In 2015, Michael Smith became the first winner of this event, while Mensur Suljovic (2016) and Peter Wright (2017) won subsequent editions. Then the Gerwyn Price era dawned, in which the Welshman came out on top in 2018, 2019, 2022 and 2023. In between, Joe Cullen took the title in 2020. In 2021, the tournament was cancelled due to the corona pandemic. In 2024, Martin Schindler surprisingly crowned himself the winner of the International Darts Open in Riesa. The German won his first-ever Euro Tour title by beating Price 8-5 in the final.
