There were questions surrounding
Luke Littler going into the
World Grand Prix after his debut in 2024 was cut abruptly short against Rob Cross. However, he has returned to Leicester with a vengeance, so far demolishing everyone in his way.
He will face Gerwyn Price in the quarter-finals as he looks to reach yet another major semi-final. There is also added motivation with the fact that this is one of the only major ranking titles he has failed to win, having already won the Grand Slam of Darts, UK Open, World Matchplay, and the World Championships. By the way it is currently looking, The Nuke is looking likely to add the final piece to the puzzle.
No one able to get close to Littler
Littler has blasted past his two opponents at the Mattioli Arena, defeating a stunning Gian van Veen 2-0 who set a tournament record average in the process. While not able to match that same performance against the Dutchman, Littler comfortably breezed past reigning champion Mike De Decker with a 3-0 win, losing just two legs against the Belgian.
Throughout these two matches he has 19 legs, only losing four of them. Adding to that, they all came on his opponent's throw.
Littler has won all 10 of his legs where he has kicked off proceedings, making him untouchable to his opponent. To add salt to the wound, van Veen and De Decker never had the chance to throw for a double on the Littler throw.
This dominance makes him the overwhelming favourite to claim the title. His toughest test so far in this tournament will likely be Price, who looked imperious in his 3-0 over Josh Rock, winning the last eight legs to dump out the Northern Irishman. It will all be in vain if the 18-year-old continues his ominous form on the oche.
