The PDC Order of Merit has been updated after Peter Wright's World Darts Championship triumph with 'Snakebite' closing in on potentially becoming World Number One in early 2022.
Wright had to defend his title from two years ago meaning he doesn't add a lot to his current ranking.
But Gerwyn Price who is the current World Number One has to win £36,000 more than Wright in the first tournaments of the year and has a final to defend at the UK Open from two years ago which accounts for £40,000.
While Wright on the otherhand is only defending £7,500 from that tournament accounting for the £36,000. This means it is a very real possibility that Wright will become World Number One.
Michael van Gerwen on the otherhand has drifted behind the top two. He lost in the third round by default after having to withdraw following testing positive for COVID-19. If Smith had won the title, Van Gerwen would have dropped to fourth place.
That spot is now in the hands of James Wade, while Smith has moved up to fifth. Dimitri van den Bergh has dropped to ninth after losing to Florian Hempel early on, while Rob Cross is back in the top ten and Joe Cullen is at a career high of 11th.
Nathan Aspinall also lost four spots. He had to defend a semi-final from two years ago and is now World No.14. While there has been rises for Mervyn King up to 17th, Callan Rydz up to 30th.
Martijn Kleermaker, Alan Soutar, William Borland, Raymond van Barneveld and Florian Hempel have all also risen as a result of their runs at the Ally Pally.
