Raymond van Barneveld will make his return to the 2023 World Matchplay for the first time since his return to the sport after his retirement U-turn.
Van Barneveld needed a win to book his spot with only ProTours to come after this weekend before the Winter Gardens in terms of ranking tournaments.
It will be a welcome return for the popular doyen of Dutch darts who alongside the likes of Gary Anderson and Josh Rock will be dangerous floaters as unseeded players in the draw.
In booking his spot, he saw off George Killington 6-3 at the European Darts Matchplay averaging 89 but starring on the doubles with 54.5% on the outer ring to see off 'Killer'.
Next up will be a return of a former rivalry between the two top Dutch darting talents ever in Van Barneveld and Michael van Gerwen.
With MVG not playing much since winning the Premier League including missing the World Cup, it will also be a good gauge going towards the World Matchplay of the current game of the Green Machine.
James Wade in another World Matchplay permutations battle also starred before Van Barneveld sealed victory with his hopes of being seeded now boosted.
Wade who has a new walk-on song proved it to be a good omen as he averaged 101 in a 6-1 rout over William O'Connor.
Despite no 180's, he hit 50% on the doubles in a usual Wade like display.
While Gabriel Clemens delighted the home crowd also with a 6-3 win over Jose de Sousa.
It was a 96 average, three 180's and 66% on the doubles from 'The German Giant' as he joins Ricardo Pietreczko who also gets in due to his ranking in finding his way into the second round in Trier.
