After an exhibition event in Wrexham on Friday,
Raymond van Barneveld,
Gerwyn Price,
Stephen Bunting, and
Joe Cullen headed to the Welsh city of Swansea on Saturday for a new booking.
With no PDC tournaments scheduled this weekend, the players had a free slot to accept a lucrative appearance. For a tidy fee, players are booked to showcase their skills in a pub or small venue, often alongside other top darters.
Van Barneveld, Price, Bunting, and Cullen therefore had
two nights in Wales on the agenda. In Swansea there was first a meet & greet between the players and some fans, where visitors could collect an autograph or take a photo with their heroes. The players then played a few matches.
First up, Bunting sealed an impressive win over Cullen. “The Rockstar” averaged 111.06, but the 3-1 victory still went to Bunting. “The Bullet” posted an average of 99.21, more than ten points lower than Cullen.
Price wins with 109 average
Next it was Van Barneveld versus Price. On Friday in Wrexham, Barney took the win, but a day later “The Iceman” took revenge in a spectacular contest. With a 109.84 average, Price won 3-2 against the five-time world champion, who himself hit a 102.54 average.
Van Barneveld put Dutch darts on the map in the late 90s.
Van Barneveld did find success afterwards against Cullen. In his second match of the evening, the Hague native triumphed 4-3 against the former Premier League finalist. The night’s finale featured Price and Bunting. Once again, Price stole the show in front of his home crowd. He edged it 4-2, averaging 107.70.
The Welshman will hope to maintain this form for now, as he is due in Cardiff on Thursday for Night 5 of the Premier League Darts.
