Dimitri van den Bergh reeled off three consecutive sets from 3-1 down to defeat Adrian Lewis 4-3 for a place in the PDC World Championship Quarter-Finals.
Van den Bergh produced brilliance to come from the brink; as he reached the latter stages for the second time in three years with a 96 average and six 180's.
Lewis produced in the early going hitting the front; with a 123 checkout on his way to an early 1-0 lead, he had previously struggled in getting going so would have been pleased that he could get to the front early against the Belgian.
Van den Bergh led in set two with a 104 checkout; but as soon as Lewis levelled at 1-1, he was in the ascendancy claiming it 3-1 with 6/7 on the doubles for 'Jackpot'.
With Lewis having the impetus, you'd likely think that he'd streak to victory from there; but despite that, Van den Bergh had some fight in him and took the next set 3-1 to reduce the deficit to 2-1 in sets.
Despite that Lewis found his mojo again pinning a 113 checkout to go level it up at 1-1; he edged 2-1 up with a 68 checkout. Van den Bergh though hit a 48 checkout to make it 2-2 as Lewis wasted a golden opportunity to go 3-1 up in sets. He had to break now to claim it.
He did so with a double 20 as he went one set away from the Quarter-Finals. Van den Bergh started the next set by breaking throw though with a 50 checkout as he aimed to gain a foothold again in the tie.
Lewis went one behind with a 136 checkout in the requisite set but Van den Bergh kicked off 180 which meant he had a stab at 108 but couldn't convert, despite that he had three clear at double eight for the set which he took to make it 2-3.
Lewis was playing well going one a piece and left himself on a make able 121 finish but he couldn't take it out meaning that Van den Bergh held throw, could Lewis hold his nerve to hold throw and then potentially take the win in a decider??
Despite a timely 180 from Lewis, Van den Bergh took out a brilliant 76 checkout; to force a deciding set as the fightback continued from the Belgian.
Lewis took the opener with a 68 checkout, he couldn't convert a 139 checkout; Van den Bergh hit the madhouse double one to make it 1-1. He added to that with a sixth 180 and double 16 to lead 2-1 and then claimed victory pinning double 20 in a brilliant display.
